So the genius president finally did something smart for Americans, he extended the Bush tax cuts for the middle-class. I never did understand his mentality in wanting to allow them to expire especially during a very sensitive economy. How could he think that allowing them to simply expire would help our suffering nation? All it would do is basically put our nation into a deeper recession. The people who need to be taxed are the wealthy! They get off so easy in our country. Yes, they pay substantial taxes when it comes to their property taxes, but those stay in an isolated place. Most of my family falls into the category where they are not taxed enough because their income exceeds 250,000+ and they (mostly my immediate family- parents) say americans in their tax bracket need to be taxed far more than what they're currently being taxed. That being said, I think it's vital for Americans who earn beyond the tax bracket mentioned above should be a bit more responsible and contribute to society in other ways such as donating to charities, churches, or organizations that thrive on donations... If you're not being taxed enough and you know it, do the right thing and help out those who are in need. People have become far too reliant on government and in turn government seems to be handicapping people because a number of Americans realize the govt will provide for them instead...
Sorry, I know I went a lintel off track from my initial statement, but I think everything I mentioned ties in together at some point or another.

We watched Dreamworlds III in class this week and I must say that it was probably the most interesting and compelling video we've watched to date. Everything that the filmmaker reported on I agreed with. I, myself am not a fan of rap or hip-hop music because it is junk. All they ever rap about relates to drugs, guns, alcohol, bitches, sex, orgies, etc. These guys typically wear baggy clothing, "ice" themselves up (teeth included), and are basically the worst role models for young adolescents. For adults, such as myself I have better sense than to look up to individuals such as rappers. However, for younger teenagers who are simply looking for someone to relate to or to look up to they don't know better and view many of these people as their role models. A lot of times, these kids see how the artists apparently live their lives (in music videos) and how they always have women around them, with enormous sums of money and alcohol and that is exactly what these kids aspire to be. Nonetheless, I think that the filmmaker does an excellent job in projecting how music videos have influenced the minds of many.

so we watched a movie/anime in class this week. i'm still trying to figure out whether or not i liked the film. i'm not really big on cartoon like shows, but this one was far more grown up with topics that were far more mature than your typical cartoon shows. the subject matter was fairly interesting, yet unrealistic and more like a fantasy. nonetheless, it was not so bad, but i still do prefer to watch something that carries more facts instead of fiction.

Facebook drama
So, today the news reported that there are two main reasons why people get deleted by their (so called) friends on Facebook. It seems the news had nothing better to report so they took an interest in the "face"... According to surveys conducted, the #1 reason friends deleted is because of unimportant postings or constant postings... The next reason was for, none other than political opinions and other similar, controversial reasons. Personally, I think people need to get over it. I tend to offer my opinion on current events and if people don't agree with me that is fine. I truly do welcome someone to challenge my beliefs, but don't get upset when I respond to your rant and delete me. I have a ton of friends and even family members who do not share the same political and religious beliefs as myself, but that doesn't mean that we cannot be friends. I don't get why people can't be adults and learn to disagree. Why must we all agree on everything. Do you know how boring this world would be if we all shared the same thoughts? The thing that bugs me most about people who are way out in left field is that they don't know how to have a civilized conversation about controversial topics. The moment they feel as if though you are disagreeing with them they become offensive and start to attack you. Say what you want, but don't get nasty. Everyone needs to learn to communicate!

So today in class we were told to refrain from making homosexual, racist, and discriminatory comments. Apparently, someone in class offended a few students and their way of life and thinking. I think this was very unfair. What ever happened to freedom of speech? On the other hand, what if some students thought it was offensive how a presenter today was using the words "cock" and "dike"? Would you, as the professor ask the students who speak so loosely to refrain from using foul language in the class? What about the students who have different views from the rest such as allowing same sex marriages, abortion, religion? What if some of the things mentioned in presentations offended others? If you're going to request that students refrain from offering their opinion on life or any subject for that matter then you are taking away their right to freedom of speech. I, myself have been offended by some of the topics discussed in class, especially types of language used, but I do not wish to complain because I simply expect for everyone to honor me with the same respect if and when I choose to speak as they do! Personally, the person who posted the comment of the billboard and gays was not attacking anyone. The individual was merely offering his/her opinion. Not once did they insult or belittle anyone. WE ARE ALL ENTITLED TO OUR OPINIONS AND ARE ALL ALLOWED TO EXPRESS IT AS WE SEE FIT. People have become so sensitive to everything that they disagree with yet we have to tolerate their comments and their insults... To each their own!!

Curious
So in class today some people gave their presentations for the CJ project. Many were pretty interesting such as sex in the media and the vegan presentation and the most compelling to me was the vegan topic. I consider myself to have a great sense of compassion for animals, especially dogs. Back home, while living with my parents I would constantly pick up stray dogs and "save them". However, when the guy was presenting his artifact it struck a chord in terms of humanity. I wondered if he had as much compassion for the living or even the unborn as he did for chickens....
